Dalen and his mom

This post is dedicated to Dalen and fun memories with his mom. He is always wanting to look at my blog and wanted to help, so this is being edited by D.C.D. I asked him what he thought of each picture and we wrote his thoughts under each. This is too cute for words.

"She looks so happy"

"That's so happy too"

"That's my bed over there"
(His bed is now on the other side of the room)

"Aw, look at my blanket......I want it"
(He hasn't had any of his blankets for a few months now)

"Eeeeewww....that's yucky....me..."
(He actually remembers that he had a spider bite on his eye)

"That's so cool....real so cool"
(He was at the fair with his mom)

"That picture is mean....that person behind me."

N-A-R-C-O-L-E-P-S-Y #1

Sometimes I wonder why, why, why did I have to get narcolepsy. No pity party required; I am just having one of those 'why me' days. Granted, I have been dealing with narcolepsy since I was 15 years old, but I am just plain old tired of it. (No pun intended)
In an effort to conquer my current state of self-pity, I have decided to compile a list of the positives of narcolepsy:
1. I will never, ever have to experience insomnia
2. I get more beauty sleep than the average person
3. I sleep so soundly that I could sleep through absolutely anything
4. A 4 hour plane trip to PA seems like 20 minutes to me because I sleep the entire way
5. I can plan what I want to dream about because I fall asleep in a matter of seconds and go directly into REM sleep. (REM sleep is when you have very vivid dreams that you can remember.) So, all I have to do is think about what I want to dream, close my eyes and I am there. I have been all over the world.
6. From what I am told, I am extremely entertaining while I sleep. My husband says that he was talking to me one day and I fell asleep in the middle of our conversation. So, he thought it would be funny to continue talking. He proceeded to tell me that there was a spelling bee downstairs and asked me if I would like to attend. (He knows that I always wanted to participate in a spelling bee) In my sleep, I nodded my head, “yes”. He continued, “Wendy spell the word: metropolis.” And, in my most serious spelling bee voice, I responded: M-E-T-R-O-P-O-L-I-S, metropolis”
7. If I am mad or upset about something, I just close my eyes and go to sleep

Pity party officially over. Now, off to sleep, I think I will go to Paris tonight.

TACKY DAY

When I found out it was "tacky" dress day at school, my gemini imagination went on into overtime. (I found out at 5:30pm when I picked D up at school.....it was for the next day.) Luckily, I was directed back to earth by Jason, who informed me, "With boys, you can't risk their coolness."
So, my task changed to tacky/cool (and fast, of course).
Did I fail to mention that they are giving out awards for 1st and 2nd place? Now I know that winning isn't the most important thing....BUT it was his first contest at school!!
INTRODUCING, MR. TACKY/COOL
How did the contest turn out???

IT WAS A TIE.............

How did I create such a "tacky" masterpiece??? See below:

  • Cut the sleeves of a long-sleeve t-shirt to make short-sleeves

  • Cut strips up the short-sleeves

  • Using the sleeves that were cut off, cut the shape of a "D", a small strip and a bigger strip

  • Sew the "D" and small strip onto a pair of jeans (on opposite legs) using colored thread

  • Cut the legs off the jeans to make shorts then cut triangles into the short legs.

  • Take the bigger strip (cut from the t-shirt) and sew the ends together to make a bracelet.

  • Use the triangles (cut from the shorts) and sew onto the bracelet using colored thread

One Big piece of the outfit is not shown in the picture above...."THE TURTLE HAT"......not sure why he didn't have it on yet, but it was the key element...... LOL......The turtle hat can be seen in soon to posted zoo pictures.

Ways to Beat the Texas heat

Summertime is soooo fun. I get so hot outside that I am delirious. Just because I can, I'm going to stretch my face as far as I can to see if it's possible to reach my ears.
When it's over 100 degrees, there is nothing like a little gardening in the nude.....

Mama, leave me alone...I'm relaxing....

Like Father, like son

We went out to breakfast one morning. I pull out the camera (as I always do) and tell the Jay and D to make faces and I'm gonna start snapping pictures. These three pictures were right in a row in a matter of minutes.....

Monster Trucks

In our house, Monster Trucks have helped Dalen conquer the battle against running to hide and poo in a diaper or poo in the potty!!! Who would have known that it could be that easy?? So, after many, many trips to Wal-mart, over 16 monster trucks and lots of encouragement, we have a champion!! Dalen knows the name of each one of his trucks and picks a new one every day to take with him.

Yesterday's conversation:

Jason: "Do you think we spoil Dalen?"

Wendy: "No, not at all....we just get him everything he wants."

Let's Go Fly A Kite!!

"Let's go fly a kite; up to the highest height...."
We went downtown last weekend for the Austin Kite Festival. We never found the festival, so we made our own kite day. Dalen had a "CARS" kite. He did a great job and had so much fun playing with it. Although every time he looked into the sky to see how high it was, the sun got in his eyes and he would let go........hence the picture of the kite flying and Dalen chasing after it!! But, he didn't seem to mind at all. He had a blast. It was daddy that was not having fun with his new toy. Jason got a "super cool big boy" kite with two handles that he never did figure out! Boys and their toys....LOL!!
